Comic opera in three acts, debut performance 1837 at Stadttheater Leipzig,
confusion play between the Russian deserter Peter and the tzar Peter Ivanov.
»This year Johannes Leitgeb’s stage design, which wonderfully matches the location, is again a real feast for the eyes, supported by Susanne Ötzpinar’s beautiful, not-at-all-kitsch costumes.«

1st Act – Dockyard in Saardam
»Tabor Castle with its splendid arcades is by itself a real gem and a charming location for the Jennersdorf Opera Festival. Still Johannes Leitgeb came up with some creative ideas. Windmill blades were attached to the low castle tower, and they rotate only between the acts, so that their sound would not disturb the show. At the beginning the stage is dominated by wooden arches – easily recognizable as a ship in construction – that are being dilligently worked at. This skeleton will bear later small light bulbs to accompany the wedding party. Only a few tables and chairs are added, and this is all the set needs.«

2nd Act – Wedding Scene
»Stage designer Johannes Leitgeb ably turned the round castle tower into an adequate windmill and the pretty two-story arcades offer an impressive background for the dockyard in Saardam. A large ship’s frame added to the atmosphere.«
